Dietitian’s Corner

Maria Oria, R.D.

Maria is a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. She also has graduate degrees in Food Science and Nutrition from the University of Wyoming and Purdue University. Maria is a native of Spain and has been living in the United States for 35 years. She worked for 20+ years at the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies, where she interpreted nutrition scientific studies in many different topics such as food allergies, food safety nutrient requirements, or dietary supplements. With that background, her strength is in providing her patients with the best advice related to nutrition and food, relying on her 20+ years of experience in food and nutrition science and on her learning from many health experts along the way. In addition, she has also taught classes about the ways in which we grow and process food and how it impacts our health and that of the planet. Nutrition can be a confusing topic to decipher, with scientists constantly exploring answers. Maria strives to get to know each patient and support them with personalized and simple guidance that helps them achieve their health goals and enjoy the process. In addition, she is a firm believer in the benefits of minimizing stress in our lives and increase joy. She incorporates some tools towards a less stressful life, as appropriate. In her spare time, she tries to grow a vegetable garden every summer, loves being active in the outdoors, and enjoys playing music with friends every week.
